BIOCERAMIC MOONSWATCH 1965

Thisnon-limited chronograph features a gray Bioceramic case, crown and pushers aswell as a gray VELCRO® strap with contrasting light gray stitching andBioceramic loop. It has a white dial and a black Bioceramic bezel with a whitetachymeter scale. This timepiece features two unique counters at 10 and 2o’clock. The first indicates the number 19 (normally 60) at the top, while theother displays the number 65 (normally 10), referencing the year 1965. Thesecounters have been calibrated to total 19 hours (counter at 10 o’ clock) and 65minutes (counter at 2 o’ clock), making the chronograph reading a bit differentthan the typical chronographs. The numbers 19, 65 and 60 (on the counter at 6o’clock) glow blue under UV light, paying tribute to the OMEGA Speedmaster andthe flight qualification it received from NASA, 60 years ago, in 1965. An imageof the Moon can be found on the battery cover. The dials of every watch in thiscollection carry the OMEGA X Swatch branding, the iconic Speedmaster logo andthe MoonSwatch logo. Also common to all models are the box-shaped biosourcedglass construction, the etched "S" in the center of the glassreferencing the Swatch logo, the fine and sophisticated circular pattern on thedial outer ring and the recessed subdials, the sharp and smooth lugsconstruction and of course the unique Bioceramic feel. The hour markers, hourand minute hands and the tip of the chronograph seconds hand are coated withGrade A Super-LumiNova® for a perfect glow in the dark (green emission).

Amilestone in timekeeping

In the1960s, NASA sought a watch capable of withstanding the extreme conditions ofspace travel and issued a call for watch brands to submit their chronographs.Several brands responded, including OMEGA who submitted its Speedmaster model(ST105.003 from 1964), Longines with its Wittnauer 235T model and the ....X brandwith reference 6238. After subjecting these models to eleven rigorous tests,only one timepiece emerged victorious: OMEGA's Speedmaster. Demonstratingunparalleled robustness and precision, it was officially qualified for allmanned missions on March 1, 1965, marking the start of OMEGA's remarkablejourney in space exploration.
